I was not replacing it. I want to explain why a phone that's almost 8 years old matters enough to write a review about. my husband passed away two years ago and I've been using his iPhone X since then. I know that sounds strange but it still has his voice memos on it, some videos, little things. it froze completely about six weeks ago and I was sick with worry. Apple told me the device was old and parts were limited. I found Gbytesoft and I honestly didn't care how much it cost at that point. it worked. everything was still there. I cried for about 20 minutes after. I think older firmware versions just take longer to pull. it's not a complaint exactly — it worked — but if you're doing this on an older device, set aside an hour and don't watch the screen the whole time. you'll stress yourself out. get a cup of tea and come back.
